Tracks & Tales exists for one reason: to help people find the best places to truly listen. Not the best-marketed places, not the most photographed — the ones that sound right when you're standing in them.

Venues cannot pay to be in this guide.

Not for a listing, not for a Star, not for a kinder sentence. We accept no payment, freebies, or perks in exchange for coverage, and no venue can influence its scoring. If a room could buy its way in, the map would be worthless the day it happened — and the map being worth something is the entire point. Trust is the currency.

Reviews are anonymous.

Venues are experienced the way any guest experiences them — no announcements, no fanfare, no special table. What gets reviewed is the real room on a real night, not a performance for the reviewer.

One standard, everywhere.

Every assessment uses the same Star Criteria, applied identically from London to Tokyo: the sound, the space, the intent. Stars are never permanent — they can be gained, held, or lost as venues evolve. The guide rewards consistency over time, not one good night.

We'd rather be small than wrong.

This guide is independent and self-funded. We're not crowdsourcing opinions and averaging them; we're curating judgment against a published standard. That means slower growth and fewer listings than the big platforms — and it means that when this guide says a room is worth crossing a city for, it is.
