1970–1975
No idea why really...

Lately I keep finding myself pulled deeper into jazz recorded between 1970 and 1975.
Why that period exactly, I honestly don’t know. Maybe because everything still sounded like discovery. Acoustic jazz dissolving into electric music. Brazilian influence arriving. Spiritual searching. Fender Rhodes everywhere. Albums that felt less interested in perfection and more interested in possibility.
Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders, Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith.
The records feel open. Not trapped by genre yet. You can hear musicians testing the future in real time.
And maybe that’s part of it.
Modern life often feels over-defined before it even begins. Algorithms already know the answer before you ask the question. But those records still sound like people searching without fully knowing where they were heading.
There’s freedom in hearing that again.
