Lets reflect on the meaning of belonging in Tracks & Tales — a quiet society where Listeners Membership is earned, not bought.

作者:拉菲·默瑟

And the Listeners Membership — the quiet heart of this project — now counts one hundred names.

One Hundred people who didn’t need persuading. They simply understood.

They read, they listened, and something in them resonated.

There’s no campaign behind that, no strategy. It’s just recognition — one frequency finding another.

This isn’t an audience. It’s the beginning of a society.

A gathering of people who share a certain way of noticing — who believe that listening is culture, and that culture can be rebuilt one sound at a time.

I’ve started to think of it less as membership and more as inheritance.

You don’t buy your way into something like this — you earn your way in by caring.

By listening with attention when the rest of the world is shouting. By making small, quiet choices that shape a culture instead of consuming one.

That’s what belonging means here. You do something first — a review, a photograph, a story, a recommendation whispered between friends — and then you’re part of it before anyone even asks you to join.

The act itself becomes the invitation.

It’s the inverse of how most things work now.

Everywhere you look, the world sells belonging before it’s been built. We’re doing the opposite: building first, selling later — if ever.

Because when something is made with care, people find their way to it naturally.

Perhaps this Membership will become a series of gatherings. Perhaps a printed edition.

Perhaps a quiet network of custodians in cities around the world. I don’t know yet. That’s the beauty of it. The shape will reveal itself in the sound.

What matters is the principle — that belonging here is earned, not bought.

Not out of exclusivity, but out of respect. It asks for listening, not loyalty. For contribution, not consumption.

In a sense, Tracks & Tales has always been an invitation to those who already know — the ones who notice the sound in a room before the people in it. They’re the kind who would have joined anyway, even if there were no form to fill in.

Twenty names for now. Twenty frequencies. And somewhere among them, a shared belief that the most valuable things are the ones we give our attention to freely.

That’s what this is: a quiet collective of those who still listen — and who understand that listening, done well, is already an act of membership.

Frequently Asked Questions — The Listening Club Membership

What is The Listening Club at Tracks & Tales?

The Listening Club is the founding membership of Tracks & Tales — a global community of people who believe that listening is culture and that attention is a form of care. It is not simply a subscription. It is entry at the foundation of something being built from the ground up — a society of listeners, not an audience of consumers.

What does membership include?

Founding Members receive unlimited access to the Tracks & Tales platform — everything that exists now and everything that comes next. The full digital archive. City guides. A 10% discount in the Tracks & Tales shop and at events. Subscriber-only events. And the opportunity to help shape the platform as it grows.

What does Rafi Mercer mean by belonging by contribution?

Tracks & Tales is built on the principle that belonging is earned, not bought. The act of listening with attention, of contributing a review, a story, a recommendation — this is what makes someone part of the community. The membership formalises that recognition. You don't buy your way in; you demonstrate that you already belong, and the membership confirms it.

Who is Tracks & Tales for?

Tracks & Tales is for people who notice the sound in a room before the people in it. For those who let music lead their travel, who believe a city is best understood through what it sounds like, and who want to listen with more intention — at home and in the world's best listening bars. It is not for everyone. It is for those who already know.

How do I join The Listening Club?

Founding Membership is available at tracksandtales.co/join. Membership is $10 per month, capped at 200 people. Once the founding places are taken, this tier closes permanently. The site is currently free to explore — but when the paywall launches, Founding Members keep their rate and their access regardless of what is added to the p
