Oulu sits closer to the Arctic than most people realise.

Yet beneath that surface runs a current of experimental music and electronic culture that mirrors its climate: minimal, immersive, patient. It is not yet internationally known for listening bars, but the ingredients are strong: a culture of precision, an environment that fosters interior life, and a community attuned to nuance.

Stand at the edge of Market Square in winter, breath visible, snow absorbing the sound of footsteps, and you understand something essential: in Oulu, listening is sharpened by cold.
