The Listening Album
Lovers Rock — Sade (2000)
This week’s Listening Album is Lovers Rock — Sade.
And I’m giving a copy away. Well, almost.
This isn't a competition. There’s no draw, no catch and nothing particularly clever going on. I simply like the idea that a record I’ve spent the week listening to and writing about might end up in somebody else’s collection.
So I thought we'd try something.
You cover the postage and packing, and I ask you to make a small contribution towards the record itself. How much is up to you.
I've deliberately not put a price on it.
Choose what feels fair. It might be a little. It might be a little more. Or it might be more because you love the record, or simply because you like the idea and want to help me do it again next week.
That's the deal.
One record. One listener. No auction, no highest bidder. Whoever gets there first gets this week's album.
This week it is Electribal Memories, a remarkable record from 1990 that sits somewhere between house, soul, electronics and the strange hours of the morning.
I think it deserves to be listened to properly.
And then put on a shelf.
Next week, I'll choose another one.
One record. One listener. Every week.
When it’s gone, it’s gone.
— Rafi
The Listening Album is a small Tracks & Tales experiment. Every week, I choose a record worth owning and send one copy out into the world.
